Malcolm Shanks, a deaf and mute puppeteer, lives with his resentful sister and her husband, who enjoy making him miserable. Dr. Walker hires him as an assistant in his lab, where he invents a way to manipulate corpses like strings. Shanks takes over the enterprise when Walker dies and uses the procedure to kill many of his enemies and bring them back as his minions.
