Taha remembers his childhood when he used to listen to poetry. Hussein feels sad for Taha when he starts gradually losing his sight. Taha tells his mother about the demons that attacked his room. A man claims that he can treat Taha, but he causes his condition to deteriorate.
Taha loses his ability to see forever. The Sheikh comes to test Taha but Taha gets confused and fails to recite the Qur’an. Hussein orders him to return to school to learn Qur’an.
The Sheikh blames the child, Taha, for not being able to recite what he memorized from the Qur’an. Taha dreams of joining Al-Azhar and his brother tells him that he needs to be able to memorize the Qur’an.
Hussein goes with his son Taha to look for a way for him to join Al-Azhar. A rumor spreads in town that a comet will strike Earth because of God's wrath on humans.
When the Cholera spreads in Minya, Taha's brother Mahmoud is afflicted and dies. Taha and his brother travel to Cairo to go to Al-Azhar.
Taha feels lonely and scared in Cairo. He's sad that his brother didn't help him join Al-Azhar. Taha takes the exam and succeeds.
As the years pass, Taha becomes the brightest student in Al-Azhar. Taha is busy with reading poetry books and neglects Qur’an. He objects to the departure of Sheikh Mohamed Abdo, which puts him at risk of getting expelled.
Taha travels with his family by train to look for a home but when he wakes up, he finds that they left him behind. Taha gets a chance to travel on a scholarship to France.
The university’s general secretary insults Taha for being blind. Taha's colleague teaches him to speak French to be able to travel to France. Taha gets his Doctorate.
Taha goes to meet the Khedive who instructs him to study history instead of philosophy. Taha travels to France where he feels lonely.
Taha falls in love with a girl named Susan, who reads books to him. Taha returns to Cairo due to a shortage of funds and he writes to Susan. The situation improves and Taha returns to France again.
Taha confesses to Susan that he loves her but he gets surprised by her reaction. Susan tells him that she will travel and if she sends him a letter, then that means that she agrees to marry him.
Taha passes the Bachelors Degree tests in France, and he is nominated for a PhD. He marries Susan, and she gets pregnant. Taha returns to Cairo where he teaches geography and history. Years pass, and Taha becomes the Dean of Faculty of Arts and then the Minister of Knowledge.
