This title is an adaptation of Ibrahim Aslan’s story by the same name wherein he discusses the issues affecting the poor and marginalized cohorts of society that reside in Cairo’s suburbs. Ibrahim presents his story through the perspective of A’bd Al Raheem who has moved to Cairo leaving behind his rural origins. The production’s director and screenwriter, Magdy Ahmed Ali, was not in his best form when working on this title as he did not succeed in conveying the essence of the story. Moreover, he has added several sexually explicit scenes, hoping that that would make the title a commercial success – a hope which appears to have been in vain. Nevertheless, Fathy A’bd Al Wahab’s performance was admirable – an effort which has earned him the award for “Best Actor” at the Cairo International Film Festival. A’beer Sabry’s performance in the film was adequate – albeit unoriginal. Dalal A’bd Al Aziz has indeed excelled in a performing a very challenging role – a feat which will surely be remembered as one of the highlights of her cinema career. All-in-all, the title did not receive much praise from audiences. Many of those who watched the film have described it as lackluster. Critics have been more divided in their opinions with Ussama El Shazly at elcinema.com noting that the director has failed simply because he had invested too much effort in trying to accommodate everyone’s tastes. Magda Kheir Allah at “Al Wafd” newspaper took the criticism one step further by declaring that the director has betrayed the essence of the story.
