He was born in the city of Ismailia, and migrated from it after the aggression to the East. He holds a Bachelor of Social Work, as well as a Bachelor of Theater Arts, Department of Acting and Directing in 1983. He is married to the artist Lashina Lashin and the father of the emerging singer Amira Amer.
