He is a former Egyptian football player who played for Al-Ahly club from 1972 to 1988. He played in the Egyptian national team from 1980 to 1992. He participated in the national team in the 1990 World Cup in Italy and scored Egypt's only goal against the Netherlands from a penalty kick. He also participated in Egypt's 1986 African Championship in Cairo. He works as a match commentator on radio and television. He appeared as himself in many films, including A Boy Child, Amen (1984).
