He was an Egyptian composer born in Alexandria on April 2, 1912. He loved music since his childhood. He studied in Alexandria and remained in it until 1939. He was influenced by his older brother, who was a musician in the Egyptian Naval Forces Orchestra. In 1927, he began as an...Read more amateur singer; then, he composed some songs for himself. In 1932, he began frequenting Cairo theaters before working in them. He composed the score for numerous films, most notably Interview with the Devil (1955), The Lady's Puppet (1946), and The Thug (1957). He was honored on more than one occasion, during the era of President Gamal Abdel Nasser and President Anwar Sadat. He died on July 29, 1990 at age 78, leaving behind a huge artistic legacy.
