Russian writer and director, born in the USSR on 16 December 1923. He enrolled in a directing course with writer-director Igor Savchenko, which he finished in 1951. He appeared in a small role in the film The Young Guard. After that, he directed six films and wrote about 30 screenplays. He collaborated with Youssef Chahine on his films Life and the Nile (1968) and People of the Nile (1972). He died on 14 June 2003 in Moscow, Russia.
