An Egyptian weightlifter who was born on August 31, 1905 in the village of Shubar in Tanta, Gharbia Governorate. In 1925, he won the Egyptian country Championship and kept it until 1928. He then participated in the Amsterdam Championship and won the gold medal in light heavyweight, becoming the first Egyptian and Arab to win a gold medal in an Olympic tournament. In 1930, he won the world championship in heavy weight lifting in Munich, and in 1931 he won the world championship in Luxembourg. He was awarded the Nile Medal in the 1940s, and the Sports Medal from President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1965. He appeared in the movie Salah El-Din El-Ayoubi (1941).
