An Iraqi poet and author who was born in the city of Kirkuk in Iraq in 1940. He obtained a BA in English and a doctorate from the University of Leipzig in Germany on the main problems of the development of Arab culture. He worked in the literary press in Iraq before his immigration. He contributed to the publication of the magazine Poetry 69. In 1969, he wrote The Poetic Statement, which caused a cultural uproar about the concept of the new Arabic poetry. From his books: Peace, oh wave... Peace, Oh Sea (1974), Travels (1976), and Ascending to the Spring (1993). He wrote several novels and short story collections. He tackled the experience of the sixties in the book The Living Soul. He contributed to the establishment of the famous Kirkuk Group, which included Sargon Boulos, Moayed Al-Rawi, Salah Faeq, and Jean Demo. He worked on establishing a prose poem. He is known for the movie The Fifth Castle (1979).
