He was born in Antelias, Northern Beirut, in 1938. He studied music at the Lebanese Academy (1945 - 1958) and the National Conservatory of Music (1955 - 1956), in addition to receiving private lessons for ten years under the supervision of French music professors. He loved music after he was introduced to it through his two older brothers Assi and Mansour Rahbani (the Rahbani brothers). He worked as a director and music consultant for Radio Lebanon between 1962 and 1972 and also as a music producer for record companies. Elias Rahbani composed soundtracks for twenty-five films, including some Egyptian films, as well as series, and classical piano pieces. He is famous for his participation in the movie We're All Freedom Fighters (1969).
