Mahmoud Ismail was an Egyptian radio writer and film director. He started his career as a stage actor in the Egyptian National Troupe. Among the films he has written are The Big Clown and The Neighborhood's Girl. For the radio, he has written numerous series, including The Flower Seller and Tooha. He took an indefinite hiatus, then returned to appear minimally in films during the late 1970s and early 1980s like The Red Route and Rage.
