An Egyptian actress, her real name is Thuraya Youssef Atallah. She was born in Mallawi in Minya Governorate in 1930, after which she moved with her family to Cairo and joined a French school and remained there until she reached the secondary stage. Then she joined the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art. She joined the Fattouh Nashati theater group, and presented several cinematic roles during the 50s, but she became widely known as Nefisa in the movie Beginning and End (1960), adapted from the famous novel by Naguib Mahfouz. Her notable film roles include Second wife, Backstreets and The Unknown. She also starred in TV drama through the series My Aunt Safiya and the Monastery, West Bank, The White Flag and Next-Door Neighbors. She died in 2002 after a long battle with lung cancer at the age of 72.
