An Egyptian director. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema, directing department in 1965. He was appointed as a teaching assistant at the institute and then as a teacher in 1972. He assumed many positions at the institute since 1986, then was appointed president of the academy in the early 2000s. He wrote and directed several documentaries such as The Machines Revolution (1967) and On Sinai Land (1975). He headed the National Center for Cinema, then headed the censorship.
