Egyptian poet and songwriter born on 8 April 1914. For about twenty years he was one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century and wrote many famous songs for a lot of singers like Abdel Halim Hafez, Hoda Sultan, and Mohamed Kandeil. He was also Secretary General of the High Committee of Arts and Literature for several years. He died on the first of March 1977 of lung cancer.
