Egyptian songwriter born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1916. He travelled to Egypt with his mother as a child and lived with his uncle in Tanta. He auditioned as an actor for the film A Happy Day (1940), but ended up writing a song for Mohamed Abdel Wahab to sing on the film, which is "Run Run", this kick-started his career as one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century, writing songs for all the A-list singers of his time. He died on 27 March 1983.
