An Egyptian filmmaker, art director and costume designer, born in Alexandria on March 15, 1930. He graduated from Victoria College in Alexandria in 1948, then studied theater arts in London from 1949 to 1950. After he graduated as an engineer from the College of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1955, he began working in the cinema, through being an assistant to director Salah Abu Seif. His notable work as an art director include Oh Islam (1961) and Prince of Cunningness (1964). His feature directorial debut was The Mummy (1969), which is considered one of the most important Egyptian films of all time. Shadi also directed four short documentaries, including The Eloquent Peasant and The Armies of the Sun. He passed away on October 8, 1986.
