British novelist and playwright born on 25 January 1847 in Paris, France. He was one of the most successful writers of the 1930s. He wrote novels, plays, short stories, and political writings. His most famous cinematic works include Quartet, The Painted Veil, and The Letter. He died on 16 December 1965 in Nice, France.
