An Egyptian writer and storyteller. He was born in 1939 in Kafr Hegazy, El-Mahalla El-Kubra. He graduated from high school in 1965, and worked for a while in Credit Agricole Bank in El-Mahalla El-Kubra, then moved to Cairo in 1972 to devote himself to writing, but he traveled to Saudi Arabia to work as an accountant (1975-1979), and while he was there, he published a short novel in the Lebanese magazine Al-Hawadith. He wrote the story and screenplay for the feature filmMotaw'ie and Bahiya (1982). He is best known for writing the short story collections: The Beautiful City of Death in 1985, Kiosk Music, and Circles of Nostalgia in 1997. Some of his collections have been translated into English, French, German, Danish and Hebrew.
