Yousry Ali El Gendi (known as Yousry El Gendy) is an outstanding play writer. He was born on 5th February, 1944 at Domiat governorate and retired in on the 5th February, 2002.He is happily married and has two sons, a journalist and an engineer. His writings are famous for dealing with the Egyptian popular heritage (Folkolore). His work was first seen back in the sixties. Yousry El Gendy held several positions, among which is the director of Samer Theatre at Cairo, the director of the Central Division of the Mass Culture in 1976 and an advisor to the chairman of the technical and cultural affairs He also worked in the Ministry of Culture back in 1970. One of his greatest achievements is the development of the Mass Culture when he was its own technical advisor.
