An Egyptian writer and intellectual, born in 1923 in Damietta. She studied at Cairo University, and obtained a doctorate in literature at the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University in 1957. She held many positions, such as Secretary-General of the National Committee for Students and Workers, and won the State Appreciation Prize for Literature in 1996. Her books include Old Age, and The Open Door.
