He is an American actor, born in New York, USA in 1925. At the age of 16, he began acting in the early 1950s on television. He won an Oscar for Best Leading Actor for In the Heat of the Night (1967). His notable roles include: The Harder They Fall, Doctor Zhivago, and Waterloo. He passed away in 2002 at the age of 77.
