An American actor, born in 1937. He graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1955, then enrolled at Santa Monica College to study medicine, but he left a year later to join the Pasadena Playhouse, after which he got several small roles in several TV series, as well as appearing in commercials. His first appearance on the silver screen was in a small role in the comedy film The Tiger Makes Out (1966). The following year he got a starring role in the film The Graduate, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, and also received a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Male. In 1969, Hoffman was nominated again for an Academy Award for his role in the movie Midnight Cowboy. Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor twice for his roles in the films Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), and Rain Man (1988), where he played the role of an autistic man, and was nominated for the same award five other times. Hoffman got married twice, the first time in 1969 to Ann Byrne, but they were divorced in 1980, and in the same year he married Lisa Hoffman.
