Sam Shepard, born in 1943, is an American playwright, actor, and television and film director. He's authored several books of short stories, essays, and memoirs, and has received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1979 for his play "Buried Child." He was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff (1983). He continued to write, act, and direct both in film and in theater until his death in 2017.
