Turkish director Metin Erksan was born in Çanakkale, Turkey, in 1929, and after graduating from the Department of Art History at Istanbul University in 1952, he directed dozens of films that garnered acclaim in Turkey and abroad. After the army seized power on May 27, 1960, resulting in the emergence of the neo-realist movement, Erksan made his film Beyond the Nights. His other notable films include Dry Summer and Kuyu. He died on August 4, 2012, at the age of 83, in Istanbul.
