She was born in San Diego, California, in 1972. As a young child, Cameron describes herself as a strong, independent and adventurous child, who left her parents' home aged 16, and for five years lived in countries as many as Japan, Morocco, Mexico, Paris and Australia. She returned to California at the age of 21 to work as a model, and was then able to win the starring role in The Mask in 1994 opposite Jim Carrey, and the film was a huge success. Cameron then refused to work in big films, and worked for three years in independent films to improve her acting abilities and learn the basics and rules of acting and performance. She then returned to big films in 1997 opposite Julia Roberts in My Best Friend's Wedding. Some of her best known films are: There's Something About Mary, Charlie's Angels, Vanilla Sky, The Holiday, and Knight and Day.
