Albert Hughes was born on the 1st of April 1972 in Detroit, Michigan. Together with his twin brother Allen Hughes, the pair are known as the Hughes brothers and are American film directors, producers and screenwriters. The Hughes brothers’ father is African American while their mother is Armenian American. Their parents divorced when they were two and the Hughes brothers moved to Pomona, California with their mother when they were nine. From an early age, their mother was supportive of their dreams of becoming filmmakers and gave the twins a camera when they were twelve which they used to make shorts. The twins began their career directing music videos for artists such as Tone Loc and Tupac Shakur, their first feature film “Meanace II Society” came in 1993 and was a critical as well as a commercial success. The Hughes’ brothers role in that production was not limited to directing as they also co-wrote the screenplay. Since then the pair have worked on several other films the latest of which was “The Book of Eli”.
