Turkish writer and one of the best humorists in literature. He was born in Heybeliada, Istanbul, Ottoman Empire to a poor family in 1915. In 1935, he completed his education at Kuleli Military High School, and in the same year, he joined the Turkish Military Academy graduating in 1937. In 1939, he obtained the rank of an army officer, and during the same period, he studied for two years at the Fine Arts University. He won many awards, including the Palme d'Or from Italy in 1956 and an award from the Turkish Language Association in 1969. He wrote over 100 works, including novels, plays, and short stories. He passed away on July 6, 1995.
