Brian Helgeland is the son of an American father and a Norwegian mother. He was born in Brooklyn and graduated from the (University of Loyola Marymount) in Los Angeles. He worked as a fisherman in New Bedford for a brief period before starting his career in cinema. He has received several (awards) for his work.
