An Egyptian poet who was born in the village of Kafr El-Hamam in Sharkia Governorate in 1913. His family moved to the city of Alexandria, where his father worked at the religious institute. He joined the School of Applied Arts and Crafts. He then moved with his father to Cairo and completed his studies in England on a study mission. After his return, he worked at the Alexandria Customhouse, then as a broadcaster at the BBC. He was a journalist for Al-Shaab newspaper and also worked on Saudi Radio. He wrote one book entitled “The Poet Says" in 1949. He wrote many songs for Umm Kulthum.
