Prior to her acting career, Lena studied Medicine at university in addition to working as a substitute teacher and a hospital nurse. Lena later studied acting at Sweden’s National Academy of Dramatic Art and performed with Sweden’s Royal Dramatic Theatre – ensemble. Swedish (filmmaker) Ingmar Bergman casted Lena for her (cinema debut) in a small role in “Face to Face”. (Thereafter Lena achieved a high measure of success in theatrical productions). Lena Olin first appeared on the international stage when she assumed a part in Ingmar Bergman’s “After the Rehearsal”. Later in 1988, Lena starred alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in her first English speaking international title, “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”. Her participation in that production paved the way for her career at Hollywood. Her performance in 1989’s “Enemies: A Love Story” earned Lena an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 2000, Olin collaborated with director Lasse Hallstrom (in the making) of “Chocolat”, a title which was to receive five Academy Award nominations. Lena’s American television debut occurred as part of her performance in the series “Alias” in which she appeared opposite Jennifer Garner. Her performance in that series earned her an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
