Michael Cormac “Mike” Newell is a British (filmmaker) who was born in St. Albans, England on the 28th of March, 1942. As a youth, Newell studied at Magdalene College, one of the constituent colleges of the University of Cambridge. (Later,) he attended a three year training course at Granada Television intending to enter theater. Thereafter, Newell went into directing and (filmmaking). Newell’s first feature film was 1977’s “The Man in the Iron Mask”. That effort was followed by a series of critically acclaimed British titles including “Dance with a Stranger” (1985), “Enchanted April” (1992) and the popular comedy title “Four Weddings and a Funeral” (1994). Since then, Newell has directed several Hollywood productions and was the first British director of the Harry Potter series, directing “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”.
