(Maggie Smith is among the best female performers around today.) Her father taught at Oxford while her mother worked as a secretary. Maggie has married twice. Her first marriage was to the actor Robert Stevens while her second was to the (scriptwriter) (Beverly Cross). Her performing career began in the 1950s when she took part in several theatrical performances at Oxford. (Thereafter directors were drawn to her talents and she has since performed in several television productions as well as in (the Harry Potter series)).
