An American actor and director of German, Irish and Jewish descent. He attended Indiana University in Bloomington, then attended Juilliard School in New York. He appeared in the 1950s in the series Search for Tomorrow (1951), as Woody Reed. He won an Oscar in 1989 in the category of Best Supporting Actor for the movie A Fish Called Wanda. He is best known for Dave, French Kiss, and Wild Wild West.
