An American stand-up comedian, actor, and filmmaker, born in South Carolina. Chris Rock's parents moved to Brooklyn, New York, shortly after his birth before making another move to the working-class area of Bedford–Stuyvesant. His mother, Rosalie, was a teacher for the mentally disabled, while his father, Julius, was a truck driver who died in 1988 from surgery complications. Chris drew inspiration from his grandfather, who was a preacher. He went to a predominately white school, which left him a target of bullying and racism until his parents pulled him out of school. But he went on to drop out of high school altogether and got a job at a fast-food restaurant. Chris Rock started his career doing stand-up comedy and taking small parts in various comedy movies until his natural aptitude for comedy propelled him to fame. His notable credits include Head of State (2003) and Madagascar (2005).
