An American actor who was the most prominent movie star in the seventies. He won the Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Oscar. Reynolds achieved great fame in 1972 for his role in the movie Deliverance, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor. He then became a Hollywood legend after his successful roles in the films Smokey, Bandit, Cannonball Run and Boogie Nights. He began his career as an American football player in Florida, and the movie Deliverance (1972) was one of the hallmarks of his career. He also starred in Best Little Warhouse, a musical comedy film produced in 1982. Reynolds returned in 1997 to play the director of a pornographic film in Boogie Nights, for which he was nominated for an Oscar. As a teenager, Reynolds won a scholarship to play American football at Florida State University until he ended up with a knee injury, leading him to turn to local acting in state plays before moving on to film and television. He died September 6, 2018 in a Florida hospital after suffering a heart attack at the age of 82.
