An American actress and producer, born in Lincoln, Nebraska. She is of English, Scottish and German descent. She debuted in the series ABC TGIF (1989). She won the Academy Award twice for Best Actress in a Leading Role in Boys Don't Cry (2000), and the same award in 2005 for the movie Million Dollar Baby.
