He is an American director and writer who was born in New York on October 22, 1955. He studied philosophy at Columbia University. He worked in the publicity department at Avco Embassy for a year. He is known for Kinsey (2004), Dreamgirls (2006) and Chicago (2002). He won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1999 for Gods and Monsters.
