Canadian director and screenwriter born on 15 March 1943 in Toronto, Canada. He is considered to be one of the most renowned horror filmmakers; and the father of the body horror or visceral horror genre. He attended the University of Toronto to study science. After a few experiments with 16mm film, he founded a production company with two partners. His notable works include The Fly (1986), eXistenZ (1999), Dead Ringers (1988), and Crash (1996).
