An English director and screenwriter born on February 24, 1946 in New Delhi, India. He studied at Oxford University, England, and began his career as a documentary filmmaker. He was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Writing for The Postman (1994). He's known for The Merchant of Venice (2004) and Elsa & Fred (2014).
