Tobey Maguire is an American actor and producer best known for playing the vigilante superhero in the Spider-Man franchise: "Spider-Man" (2002), "Spider-Man 2" (2004), and "Spider-Man 3" (2007). Moved around a lot as a child by his young parents, Maguire tired of changing schools and dropped out of high school in the ninth grade to pursue acting. He did commercial work and got small parts on television shows before landing a starring role on the Fox comedy "Great Scott!" (1992), which was unfortunately soon canceled. He had more small parts on television before landing a supporting role in Woody Allen's "Deconstructing Harry" (1997), which he followed with a starring role in "Pleasantville" (1998). Maguire has kept busy with both commercially and critically successful films since that time, including "Cider House Rules" (1999), "Seabiscuit" (2003), "Brothers" (2009), "Life of Pi" (2012), "The Great Gatsby" (2013), and of course the Spider-Man franchise. PETA named Maguire the World's Sexiest Vegetarian in 2002. He is also a close friend of Leonardo DiCaprio. They often found themselves competing for the same roles in the 1990s, but became close and helped each get more work.
