An American screenwriter, born in Pennsylvania, United States. He began his career in writing for television before entering the world of cinema with the screenplay for the movie Gambit in 1966. He wrote the movie Julia, for which he won an Oscar for the year 1978, and in 1981, he won the Academy Award for the second time for Ordinary People. He also wrote Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, which starred Tobey Maguire. In 2012, he wrote The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield. He married producer Laura Ziskin, and she died one year after their marriage. He died on May 9, 2019.
