An American cartoonist, writer, actor, and producer, born in Marion, Indiana, United States, as James Robert Davis. He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1962. He married Carolyn Davis, and they had a child, but they divorced. He married Jill Davis, and they had two children. His most famous credits include Garfield in the Rough (1984), Garfield in Disguise (1985), Garfield's Babes and Bullets (1989), and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (2006).
