Jeremy Irons is a celebrated English actor with a vast film, television and stage resume. He hails from the Isle of Wight, England, where he was born on September 19, 1948. His memorable films include "The French Lieutenant's Woman" (1981) alongside Meryl Streep, for which he earned a BAFTA nomination; the psychological thriller "Dead Ringers" (1988) as a gynecologist; "The Lion King" (1994) in which he voiced the tyrannical uncle Scar; "Lolita" (1997); "Kingdom of Heaven" (2005); and "Margin Call" (2011). For Barbet Schroeder's "Reversal of Fortune" (1990), Irons won an Oscar and a Golden Globe. In October 2011, Irons became a Goodwill Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
