An Irish writer, born in Sligo, Ireland. He began his career in 1979 and has won several awards, including a BAFTA for The End of the Affair (1999), and an Oscar for his screenplay for The Crying Game (1992). His most notable works include The Butcher Boy (1997), The Borgias (2011), and Riviera (2017).
