An American actor, writer and director, who was born on July 27, 1955 in Berkeley, California. He studied history, received an undergraduate degree in American Studies at Occidental College, after which he attended the Yale School of Drama. He began his career on stage with the one-man theatre performance A Huey P. Newton Story, for which he won an Obie Award for his role. He frequently collaborates with Spike Lee in films such as He Got Game (1998), and Summer of Sam (1999).
