An American writer who grew up in a poor environment and faced many hardships. He first worked in a drug store, as an illustrator for a government agency, as a publisher of a humor magazine, and as a bank employee. He was arrested on charges of embezzlement, and from there, he began writing stories inside his prison cell. Some of his credits include American Live Wire (1918) and You’re Fired (1919). He died on June 5, 1910.
