Canadian actress born on November 17, 1978 in Ontario, Canada. She is of English, Welsh, Irish, and Scottish descent. She started acting at Shakespearean productions in summer theater camp by the age of 13. She graduated from a theatre degree program at York University in 2001, after which she worked in Canadian film and television productions, such as the series Slings and Arrows (2003), for which she won a Gemini award. She made her Hollywood film debut in the comedy The Hot Chick (2002). She's known for The Notebook (2004), Mean Girls (2004), Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Spotlight (2015), for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the latter.
