A writer, producer and director, who he has worked extensively in New Zealand, Australia and the United States for over forty years. In 1984, he won the New Zealand Industry Award for Best Screenplay. He also won the Prix Italia Award for Best Educational Script. In 1997 and 2001, he won the Australian Writers Guild Award for Best Script in a Television Series. He has written more than 200 hours of television, including six TV movies based on true stories. His work has been published in Australia and New Zealand, and he was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal in the 2001 Queen's New Year Honors List for his services to the Australian community through writing for television. Some of his works are E Street, City Homicide, and Water Rats.
