A Canadian film director, screenwriter, and producer, born in Toronto, Canada. He's known for his extensive work in British and American cinema between the 1960s and early 1980s, and was one of the first Canadian directors to achieve critical and commercial success. He studied at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and worked as a writer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Some of his credits are Direct Action (2004), Iron Eagle (1986), and The Leather Boys (1964).
