A British screenwriter and film director, born in Belfast. He was arrested on suspicion of his paramilitary republican activity. He later became involved with the Irish Socialist Republican Party. In 2012, he won an Academy Award for the short film The Shore. Among his works are In the Name of the Father, Some Mother's Son, and Hotel Rwanda.
